So many big names in online jewellery are now claiming the 'sustainability' badge. - Now don't get me wrong, I think it's great that more and more are using recycled metals and more eco friendly types of packaging. However, what you can't forget is that their jewellery is still being mass produced in factories in India or China (and how can we ever be 100% sure of ethical treatments/practices in the factories?), then being bagged up (I don't doubt in lot's of plastics) and shipped over to the UK. (-A big impact on carbon footprints).
When I set up Myleti Jewellery I always knew that not only did I want to use recycled materials in everything that I produced, but I wanted to ensure I only used ethical UK sources for these materials - and I wanted to make sure all of the physical 'jewellery making' was actually done here in England.

This practice not only conserves resources but also helps decrease pollution associated with mining operations. Also upcycling, the process of repurposing old jewellery into new designs, is a creative and eco-friendly way to reduce the demand for new raw materials. I have a range of necklaces that are created using left over silver from previous projects, that is then melted down again to re-use. No silver is ever wasted in my workshop!
